One Voice

I have only one voice, and I can silence it
Do you hear the echo of time tearing itself apart?
I have only one hand that holds the other one
What is the sound of one hand clapping?
I have four eyes, each of them looking its own way
One more than a shark, one less than a sea star
But there are twenty-eight cardinal directions
– each fills up its own empty universe
Including the centre
I talk since nobody listens when I’m silent
One cell talks, the other listens
I’m silent because everyone hears their own silence
There is no such thing as silence
Can you hear it?
Yes, someone is walking in your footsteps
on the Moon?!

oo)))

Beware of what you might touch and see in this sound:
a beautiful idea: the first poet on the Moon!
it could easily shatter your brain into small helpless words
the first woman on the Moon
it could run down the stairs headlessly
like Duchamp’s Nude Descending a Staircase, No. 2
and throw itself at you with an unknown weapon in hand
a singing in the ears
it could become a complex vibration of quantum fields
a process in transient equilibrium before returning to dust
it might easily be you

Including the centre
each fills its own empty universe completely
But there are twenty-eight cardinal directions
One more than a shark, one less than a sea star
I have four eyes, each of them looking its own way
